1. Liferaft Risk Technologies Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information we collect when you visit or use Liferaft Risk Technologies's ("Liferaft," "we," "us," "our") website, liferaft.co (the "Website") and the services, products and content featured on the Website, including financial and insurance related products (collectively with the Website, the "Services"). It also has information about how we store, use, transfer, and delete that information. In addition to this policy, other policies that may apply to information collected about you include:

  • Any HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices: These notices describe how certain insurance-related products use and disclose "protected health information" ("PHI") about you, as well as your rights with respect to such PHI, to the extent such insurance-related products are "covered entities" under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, as amended ("HIPAA"). When we receive PHI about you in the course of performing services for a HIPAA covered entity, we receive it as a provider of services to the HIPAA covered entity, and are therefore a "business associate" under HIPAA. We use and disclose such PHI in accordance with our obligations under HIPAA, as well as our contractual obligations to such covered entity.

We do not currently share information with non-affiliated companies for those companies to market to you.

Data Storage

Liferaft uses third-party vendors and hosting partners, such as Aptible, for hardware, software, networking, storage, and related technology we need to run Liferaft. We maintain two types of logs: server logs and event logs. By using the Services, you authorize Liferaft to transfer, store, and use your information in the United States.

Tracking & Cookies

We use browser cookies and similar technologies to recognize you when you return to our Services. We use them in various ways, for example to remember your preferences (such as default language), evaluate email effectiveness, and personalize content and other services.

Some third-party services, such as Google Analytics, to place their own cookies on your device. As explained below in the Third Party Services section, information collected by a third-party is subject to that third party’s privacy policy.

Your Choices

Sometimes we’ll send you emails about your account, service changes or new policies. You can’t opt out of this type of “transactional” email (unless you delete your account). But, you can opt out of non-administrative emails such as digests, newsletters, and activity notifications from the unsubscribe link provided in the email.

Third Party Services

Our Services may contain links to other online platforms operated by third parties. This Policy does not apply to their collection and use of information about you. Any information that you submit to or is otherwise collected by a third party is subject to that third party’s privacy policy.

Data Security

To protect information about you from unauthorized access and use, we use security measures that comply with federal law. These measures include computer safeguards and secured files and buildings, and requiring third-party service providers who handle information on our behalf to protect and safeguard your information. Further, if you are a former customer of our financial services, we will continue to treat your information in the same way as outlined in this Policy.

However, pease note that any information you send to us electronically, while using the Services or otherwise interacting with us, may not be secure when it is transmitted to us. We recommend that you do not use unsecure channels to communicate sensitive or confidential information to us. Please be aware though that, despite our best efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and we cannot guarantee “perfect security.” Any information you send us through any means is transmitted at your own risk.

When you interact with an email sent from Liferaft (such as opening an email or clicking on a particular link in an email), we may receive information about that interaction.

Changes to this Policy

Liferaft may periodically update this Policy. We'll notify you of any material changes and take any other steps as may be required by law. The most current version of the policy will always be shown here.

2. Consumer Privacy for California Users

If you are a California resident, the processing of certain personal data about you may be subject to the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) and other applicable California state privacy laws. The CCPA does not apply to information collected pursuant to HIPAA or the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, as described above. Where the CCPA applies, this section provides additional privacy disclosures and informs you of key additional rights as a California resident.

Right to Know Request

Under the CCPA, you have a right to request information about our collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information over the prior 12 months, and ask that we provide you with the following information:

1. Categories of and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.

2. Categories of sources from which we collect personal information.

3. The business of commercial purposes for collecting personal information.

4. Categories of third parties to whom the personal information was disclosed for a business purpose.

5. Categories of personal information disclosed about you for a business purpose.

Right to Delete Request

Exercising Your Rights Under CCPA

We may need to collect information from you to verify your identity, such as your email address, government issued ID or date of birth. If you have not previously shared your email address with Liferaft, we may not have enough information about you to verify your Right to Know and Right to Delete requests since we do not keep sufficient information to re-identify and link you to a prior visit to Liferaft. You may make a verifiable consumer request to access your personal information twice per 12-month period. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your rights under the CCPA.

Requests made through Agents

You may designate, in writing or through a power of attorney document, an authorized agent to make requests on your behalf to exercise your rights. Before accepting such a request from an agent, we will require that the agent provide proof you have authorized them to act on your behalf, and we may need you to verify your identity directly with us.
